Andrew Hofmeyr

Artist Andrew James Hofmeyr grew up in Johannesburg before moving to Hogsback in the Eastern Cape and then abroad to Taiwan, the UK and then back to the Western Cape in South Africa.

Andrew Hofmeyr is inspired by the world around him and the liminal spaces where animals, nature and humans intersect. By bringing together these elements in his art he creates work that is quirky, whimsical, naïve and energetic. His work focuses on the familiar and expresses an awareness of the magic and beauty of everyday life.

It is through narrative and story telling that Andrew’s work as an artist has transcended mediums. Known affectionately as Foxman, having fun and bringing an element of play to his work is something that he takes very seriously. With an illustration background, Andrew uses ink, watercolour paints, acrylic, wood, plaster and found objects. As comfortable at an easel as he is with a chainsaw he continues to push his own boundaries.

Andrew has exhibited work in Taiwan, England, New Zealand and South Africa and has work in private collections around the world.
