{"id":179,"count":2,"description":"Quincy Mbuso Hlongwa (b. 1977) is a self-taught contemporary South African artist born in Chesterville, eThekwini (Durban), and currently living and working in Cape Town. Working predominantly with oil paint and fabric, he creates figurative works that explore identity, memory and contemporary Black life. His distinctive visual language is characterised by vivid cobalt-blue figures, expressive brushwork, bold colour relationships and the tactile use of fabric. Hlongwa intentionally moves beyond realism, using symbolic colour and stylised forms to evoke emotional and psychological presence. Before establishing his full-time studio practice, he developed his artistic language through sign writing, mural painting and commercial art. Through colour, symbolism, materiality and portraiture, Hlongwa examines identity, belonging and the emotional complexities of everyday life.","link":"https:\/\/houtbaygallery.co.za\/hbg\/artist\/quincy-mbuso-hlongwa\/","name":"Quincy Mbuso Hlongwa","slug":"quincy-mbuso-hlongwa","taxonomy":"product_cat","parent":0,"meta":[],"menu_order":0,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/houtbaygallery.co.za\/hbg\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_cat\/179","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/houtbaygallery.co.za\/hbg\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product_cat"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/houtbaygallery.co.za\/hbg\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/taxonomies\/product_cat"}],"wp:post_type":[{"href":"https:\/\/houtbaygallery.co.za\/hbg\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/product?product_cat=179"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
